As the harsh winter sets in, the residents of Alaska's wild terrain must fend for themselves in order to survive. In season 10 episode 4 of Life Below Zero, titled "To Catch a King," viewers are taken on a journey with various individuals who are living off the land and facing myriad challenges.

With temperatures dropping to extreme lows, hunting and trapping become increasingly difficult as animals retreat to warmer, more sheltered areas. Yet, winter also brings unique opportunities for survival, including the ability to harvest ice from frozen rivers and use it for refrigeration and water supply.

In this episode, we first meet Glenn Villeneuve, who has been living alone in the wilderness for over a decade. He sets out on a hunt for lynx, a prized animal with soft, luxurious fur. Though challenging to locate and trap, the reward can provide the much-needed resources to make it through the winter. Meanwhile, Sue Aikens works to preserve her meat supply by butchering a caribou and making use of every part of the animal, a tradition that has been passed down for generations.

For some residents, the winter months provide an opportunity to reflect on and reconnect with their values and beliefs. Ricko DeWilde, a Gwich'in Eskimo, takes viewers on a spiritual journey as he visits a sacred site where his ancestors once hunted and gathered. He explains the significance of the land to his people and the importance of respecting and preserving the natural world.

As winter drags on, the struggle to find food becomes more dire. Jessie Holmes sets his sights on catching a king salmon, but the freezing temperatures and icy waters make the task nearly impossible. Every day is a battle to stay warm and fed, and even the smallest successes can mean the difference between life and death.

Throughout the episode, we see how the various residents have adapted to their vastly different lifestyles. From living in a remote cabin without electricity to operating a snowmobile to traverse the rugged terrain, each person has found ways to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. But despite the difficulties, they all find joy and fulfillment in their unique ways of life.

Life Below Zero season 10 episode 4, "To Catch a King," is a riveting look into the lives of Alaska's most resilient residents. With heart-stopping hunts, breathtaking scenery, and insights into the traditions and cultures of the people who call this wild land home, this episode is a must-see for anyone interested in the natural world and the ever-present challenge of survival.
