In season 5, episode 2 of Life Below Zero titled "Armed for Winter," viewers are taken on a journey through the harsh and unforgiving Alaskan winter as the show's stars prepare for the long months ahead. From hunting to gathering wood for fuel, this episode showcases the skills and determination it takes to survive in such an environment.

The episode begins with Glenn Villeneuve, who lives alone in the wilderness near Chandalar Lake, preparing for the winter by constructing a new log cabin. A skilled hunter, Glenn is seen stalking a herd of caribou, knowing that the meat will be vital for him to survive through the coming months. He carefully tracks the caribou, using the cover of snow and trees to hide his presence, before successfully taking down one of the animals.

Meanwhile, in Kavik, Sue Aikens is busy stocking up on supplies and preparing for the worst-case scenario, as she always does. Sue knows that anything can happen in the Alaskan wilderness, and she needs to be ready for all eventualities. She stocks up on fuel for her snowmobiles and generator as well as gathering ammunition and firearms for protection.

Further south in the Brooks Range, Andy Bassich is busy tending to his sled dogs. Without them, Andy would not be able to hunt, trap or travel through the snow and ice. He prepares for the winter by making sure they are all in good health and have adequate shelter. Andy also knows that he needs to gather enough wood to fuel his stove, which will keep both himself and his dogs warm throughout the winter.

In Noorvik, Chip and Agnes Hailstone are also preparing for the winter by stocking up on food and supplies. However, with the help of their children, they have another task on their hands - building a new fish rack. This is important because the fish they catch will be a vital source of food for them throughout the winter. They need to make sure that the fish are dried and preserved properly so they do not spoil.

The episode highlights the different strategies used by the show's stars to prepare for the harsh Alaskan winter. For some, it's about gathering fuel and ammunition, while for others it's about hunting and trapping. But no matter what the task, the one thing that remains clear is the importance of being prepared.

As the episode draws to a close, viewers see that the stars of Life Below Zero are indeed armed for winter. They have stocked up on supplies, gathered enough food and fuel, and are ready to face whatever challenges the winter may bring. But they are also aware that the harsh reality of life in the Alaskan wilderness means that anything can happen, and they need to be ready for it.
