Brian Finch, who has now become a liaison for the FBI, is tasked with helping Agent Rebecca Harris investigate a high profile case in which a wealthy CEO has been assassinated. As he works to assist her in solving the case, Brian realizes that the man who killed the CEO may have taken a dose of NZT, the drug that allows him to tap into his full potential and think faster than anyone else.

Meanwhile, Brian's relationship with his father becomes strained when his father discovers that Brian has been taking NZT. Worried about the harmful effects of the drug, Brian's father threatens to go to the authorities if Brian doesn't stop. This puts Brian in a difficult position, as he relies on NZT in order to keep up with the intense demands of his job, and he can't risk losing it.
