Looney Tunes Season 1948 Episode 21 Dough Ray Me-ow
- August 14, 1948
Dough Ray Me-ow is the 21st episode of the 1948 season of Looney Tunes, a classic animated series filled with beloved characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig. This episode features one of the most iconic duos from the series, Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird.
The episode begins with Sylvester living in his cozy little home, when he hears Tweety singing from a nearby birdcage. Sylvester's hunger for the little yellow bird is immediately aroused, and he begins devising a plan to catch him. He disguises himself as a lullaby-singing nursemaid and sneaks into Tweety's cage, but his plan backfires when he accidentally ingests a mixture of yeast and baking powder instead of his usual cat food. The result? He blows up into a giant ball of dough.
Horrified at his new appearance, Sylvester tries everything he can think of to get back to his normal self, but nothing works. Meanwhile, Tweety takes advantage of the situation by taunting Sylvester and using him as a trampoline. Eventually, Sylvester decides to visit a local doctor, who instead of curing him, just adds more yeast to his already doughy body.
Things go from bad to worse when a group of alley cats decide to play-fight with Sylvester, causing him to roll down a hill and into a pie factory. Here, he is stuck in a giant vat of dough and molded into the shape of a giant cat-shaped bread loaf. The workers at the factory, thinking that the loaf is just a new product, package it up and send it to a grocery store.
At the store, the loaf ends up in the shopping cart of none other than Granny, the kind-hearted owner of Tweety Bird. When she brings the loaf home, Tweety excitedly jumps onto it, exclaiming "A birthday cake... for me?" Granny proceeds to cut into the loaf with a knife, revealing Sylvester inside. But instead of being angry at the cat, Granny is excited to have made such a unique and tasty loaf of bread.
In the end, Sylvester is seen happily munching on a piece of the bread alongside Tweety and Granny, satisfied with the fact that he's no longer being chased by the bird. The episode ends with Sylvester breaking the fourth wall, addressing the audience and saying "That's what I get for trying to catch a bird with a cold in his head!"
Overall, Dough Ray Me-ow is a classic and hilarious Looney Tunes episode that showcases the timeless humor and wit of the series. The contrast between the cute and innocent Tweety Bird and the scheming Sylvester the Cat is always entertaining, and this episode in particular adds a fun twist to their classic rivalry. Fans of the series will love watching Sylvester struggle to get back to his normal self, while also chuckling at the absurdity of his giant doughy form.
