Looney Tunes Season 1960 Episode 5 Goldimouse and the Three Cats

  • March 15, 1960

In the Looney Tunes season 1960 episode 5 titled "Goldimouse and the Three Cats," we are introduced to a story that is inspired by the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The episode begins with three feline siblings, Tom, Dick, and Larry, trying to catch a mouse, and failing miserably. Meanwhile, Goldimouse, a mischievous and adventurous mouse, is on the hunt for food and shelter.

As she stumbles upon the cats' house, she decides to sneak in and find some food. In typical Goldilocks fashion, she tries out each cat's food, choosing the food that she finds the most delicious. The hungry Goldimouse also finds the trio's bedding particularly comfortable, and falls asleep on the bed, after which the cats return home and discover her presence.

As soon as the cats realize that there is a mouse in their house, they start looking for the intruder, but to their surprise, they find the little mouse sleeping soundly on Larry's bed. After unsuccessfully attempting to catch Goldimouse, the cats start to use their wits to try and trap her. They lay out some cheese in the middle of the living room with a bell attached, in the hopes of hearing the sound of the bell when Goldimouse takes the cheese.

But Goldimouse is too clever for the cats since she quickly realizes what they have planned. To outsmart them, she sews a bell on each of the sleeping cat brothers' collars so that when they try to move, the jingling bells will give themselves away. Over time, Goldimouse becomes more and more daring as the cats fail time and time again to catch her.

As the story progresses, things heat up between the cunning mouse and the cats; however, all the while, the episode maintains that classic Looney Tunes sense of humor that we all know and love. The drawing, the animation, the voice-over, and the slapstick comedy all shine through in this episode.

Overall, "Goldimouse and Three Cats" is an entertaining and playful addition to the Looney Tunes franchise. The story has all the elements that we expect from Looney Tunes episodes, with a unique twist on the classic Goldilocks tale. As the episode continues, we watch as the tables turn, and Goldimouse becomes the one outsmarting the cats who are desperate to catch her. Despite the story's short runtime of just a little over six minutes, it packs a lot of laughs and enjoyment into a small amount of time. The witty dialogue, entertaining gags, and hilarious chase scenes are all characteristic of the classic Looney Tunes style.
