Made in Jersey
- 1 Season
Made in Jersey is a legal drama television series that is broadcast by the CBS network and its affiliates. The premise follows a streetwise attorney who was born and raised in the New Jersey region. Martina joins a high-end New York City law firm, where she defends clients on a variety of charges. Working under intense scrutiny, skeptical colleagues serve to make the situation difficult for her at times. Her Italian American family causes constant interruption against the backdrop of her decidedly lowbrow prosecutor persona. The drama attempts to dispel any negative stereotypes of the New Jersey region by presenting an intelligent and professional woman. Martina has easily made the transition from the prosecutor's Trenton office to the uptown, Ivy League firm where she now practices law. Her first case involves a female college student who is accused of murdering one of her professors. While her colleagues have decided to have their client plead out, Martina is not ready to give up just yet, due to her experience as a former prosecutor. The show displays the inevitable upper crust and co-worker clashes that exist in New York City and particularly, the legal business world. The series also seems to very cleverly devise ways for Martina to develop fresher insights into each case through her savvy, working-class experiences and background. There are a variety of typical New Jersey settings featured to lend authenticity, such as beauty salon exchanges between her and friends and family. However, nothing seems to be gratuitous and every attempt at normalcy appears to have been made in the show. The decided novelty of a small town girl managing a new life in the big city works as a tried and true formula, however, this show attempts to deepen the characters. By presenting them with meaningful situations, they navigate each one with thoughtful precision. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television along with CBS Television Studios. Dana Calvo created and wrote the series. Producers include Kevin Falls, Julia Franz, Jamie Tarses and Jan Nash, along with Ms. Calvo. The series stars Janet Montgomery as Martina Garretti, Kristoffer Polaha as Nolan Adams, Kyle MacLachlan as Donovan Stark, Megalyn Echikunwoke as Riley Prescott, Toni Trucks as Cyndi Vega, Erin Cummings as Bonnie Garretti, and Felix Solis as River Brody.
