In The Neptune Affair, the eleventh episode of the first season of Man From U.N.C.L.E., the two agents, Solo and Kuryakin, are sent to investigate a series of mysterious accidents that have been occurring at a naval base. However, things take a turn for the worse when Solo is captured by the enemy and brainwashed to turn against his own organization. Kuryakin must now race against time to free his colleague and stop the villains from carrying out their evil plan to sink a U.S. submarine.
The episode starts with a scene showing a naval base on the coast of California. Suddenly, a water truck explodes, causing a major fire that engulfs the surrounding area. The police rush to the scene to investigate, but no one is able to explain the cause of the explosion. UNCLE agent Napoleon Solo (played by Robert Vaughn) is called upon to investigate the matter.
He arrives at the naval base and meets with his contact, Captain Turko (played by Richard Jaeckel). Captain Turko informs Solo that there have been several similar incidents at the base in recent weeks, all of which appear to be accidents but are clearly orchestrated by someone with sinister intentions.
Solo uses his diplomatic charm to gain access to the investigation reports but is confronted by a group of thugs who want to stop him from digging any further. A fight ensues, and Solo is able to fend off his attackers, but not before one of them manages to slip a pill into his mouth. The pill causes Solo to black out, and he wakes up in a strange room with no recollection of how he got there.
Meanwhile, Solo's partner, Illya Kuryakin (played by David McCallum), has been investigating a similar series of accidents in another part of the country. He receives a message from Solo indicating that he has been captured and needs help. Kuryakin races to the naval base, where he meets with Captain Turko and learns what has happened to Solo.
Kuryakin uses his Russian accent to impersonate one of the enemy agents and infiltrate their base. He finds Solo, who has been brainwashed into thinking that he is one of the enemy agents. Kuryakin must now convince Solo that they are actually colleagues and friends and help him regain his memory.
Together, the two agents must work to stop the enemy from carrying out their plan to sink a U.S. submarine. They discover that the enemy has placed a magnetic device on the submarine that will attract a powerful torpedo and cause it to explode upon impact. With time running out, Solo and Kuryakin must race against the clock to find and disarm the device before it's too late.
In the end, the two agents are successful in stopping the enemy and saving the submarine. Solo's memory is restored, and he and Kuryakin are able to apprehend the mastermind behind the plan.
The Neptune Affair is a thrilling episode of Man From U.N.C.L.E. that showcases the intelligence and resourcefulness of the two agents as they work together to unravel a complex mystery.
