Adam Burns (Matt LeBlanc) returns in the latest episode of Man With a Plan season 3 episode 5 titled "The New Old School." This episode sees Adam and his wife, Andi (Liza Snyder) trying to help their friend, Lowell (Matt Cook), reconnect with his old college buddies.
Lowell is excited to reunite with his college friends but is disappointed to learn they have replaced him with another friend named J.B. (Charles Esten). Adam and Andi decide to take matters into their own hands and try to help Lowell win back his old group of friends. The couple soon discovers that Lowell's group of friends is actually a speedboat club, and the only way Lowell will be able to reconnect is by buying his own speedboat.
Lowell is hesitant to spend the money on a boat, but Adam convinces him that it will be worth it in the long run. Adam and Lowell set out to buy a speedboat, but things don't go as planned, and Adam finds himself involved in an intense negotiation with the boat salesman.
Meanwhile, Andi decides to chaperone her daughter's school dance and ends up getting more involved than she anticipated. She finds herself trying to help a group of girls who are being bullied by a popular mean girl. Andi tries to convince the mean girl to stop bullying the other girls and instead focus on her own happiness.
The episode takes a hilarious turn when Adam finally buys Lowell the speedboat but forgets to buy the trailer. The boat salesman offers to sell him a trailer for a steep price, and Adam is desperate to negotiate a more reasonable deal. The negotiation between Adam and the boat salesman turns into a hilarious back-and-forth, leaving the audience in stitches.
As the episode ends, Lowell finally gets to reconnect with his group of friends and spends the day out on the lake with them. Andi successfully puts a stop to the mean girl's bullying and helps the other girls come out of their shells to enjoy the dance party.
