Martin Clunes, known for his roles in Doc Martin and Men Behaving Badly, takes viewers on a journey across America's islands in this stylish and insightful documentary series, available on Acorn TV. Martin Clunes' Islands of America is an eight-part series, each episode taking in a different island or cluster of islands, from the remote and wild to the well-known and heavily populated.

Clunes, a British actor and keen traveler, brings his wit, charm, and sense of adventure to every location, providing an engaging and informative commentary on the history, culture, and natural beauty of each island. From Alaska to Hawaii, Puerto Rico to Martha's Vineyard, Clunes delves into the diverse geographies, ecosystems, and people that make each island unique.

The series begins in Kodiak, Alaska, one of the most isolated and unpredictable places in America. Here, Clunes explores the rugged terrain and encounters some of the region's most fascinating wildlife, from brown bears and sea otters to salmon and king crabs. But he also meets the people who have managed to thrive in this challenging environment, such as the native Alutiiq population who have sustained their culture and traditions for thousands of years, and the settlers who have carved out a living from the land and sea.

From there, Clunes travels to Puerto Rico, a Caribbean island with a complex and tumultuous history. Here, he learns about the island's colonial past, its varied landscapes and ecosystems, and the rich culture of its people, including their music, food, and spirituality. He also explores the impact of Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island in 2017, and the ways in which the Puerto Rican people have rallied together to rebuild and recover.

Other episodes take Clunes to the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia, where he discovers the unique flora and fauna of this wildlife-rich region, and meets the locals who have made their homes here; to the idyllic Martha's Vineyard, where he learns about the island's whaling history, its celebrity residents, and its timeless charm; and the remote and rugged Channel Islands off the coast of California, where he encounters some of the rarest and most endangered species in the world, including the island fox and the California sea lion.

Throughout the series, Clunes combines his sense of discovery and adventure with his trademark sense of humor and deep respect for the people and places he encounters. He spends time with native communities, fishermen, farmers, park rangers, historians, and conservationists, gaining an insight into their way of life, their struggles and triumphs, and their perspectives on the future.

Martin Clunes' Islands of America is a stunning and compelling exploration of some of America's most fascinating and beautiful islands, presented with warmth, intelligence, and humor by one of the UK's most beloved actors. Whether you're an armchair traveler or a seasoned adventurer, this series is sure to delight, inspire, and educate.
