The story of Michiko to Hatchin takes place in a fictional town in South America. Hana Morenos is a nine year old girl who is constantly abused by her strict foster family. She is forced to do all of the chores in the house, while putting up with the bullying and beatings from her step-siblings. As each day passes, Hana dreams of getting away from her family, hoping someone will rescue her from this nightmare. Michiko Malandro is an ex-convict who escapes from a high-security prison in Diamandra, seeking out her long lost boyfriend, Hiroshi. As she embarks on her journey, she encounters Hana and takes her away from her family. As both Michiko and Hana trail off into the sunset, Hana later finds out that Michiko is her real mother and Hiroshi is her father. Even though they are both very different from each other, they both share the same fate through a connection of a man named Hiroshi Morenos. Both Michiko and Hana set off to find this man from their past, while searching for their freedom. As they both continue to travel together, they encounter numerous gangs, become a target for the police and even learn appreciate and love each other during this wild and tireless adventure.
