Christy is on phone at work with Jill, who is in her kitchen. They are discussing that Christy’s mom is coming over for dinner. Jill offers to help cook dinner, and Christy is thankful. At the end of the phone call, Christy hears someone playing a harmonica outside. She looks out the window and sees a man in a monkey suit playing the harmonica.

At the restaurant, Bonnie is upset because she thinks she is losing her touch with men. She tells Tammy she wants to find someone, but doesn’t know where to start. Tammy suggests she try online dating, but Bonnie is hesitant since she knows nothing about computers.

Christy comes home to her apartment and sees the same man in the monkey costume that she saw earlier. He’s outside her door. She asks what he is doing, and he says he is playing harmonica to raise awareness for his animal shelter. He tells her his name is Dale, and he has a thing for women who help animals. Christy tells Dale she’s not interested. She takes out the garbage, and when she comes back, Dale is gone.

Jill arrives at Christy’s apartment, and they start cooking dinner. Then, Christy’s mom, Bonnie, arrives. Christy is surprised to see that Bonnie has brought a man with her. Bonnie introduces them to her new friend Ray. Bonnie had been telling Ray all about how wonderful Christy is and he has been dying to meet her.

At dinner, Bonnie is being her usual self and is embarrassing and inappropriate. Christy pulls Bonnie aside to talk to her. Bonnie tells Christy she wants to help her find someone so they can go on double dates. Bonnie tells Christy she can start by using Ray’s friend, Tom, as a way to meet someone.

Back at the restaurant, Tammy is still trying to convince Bonnie to try online dating. Bonnie decides to get a computer and try it out. She doesn’t know where to start, and Tammy decides to create a profile for Bonnie. Tammy starts filling in the profile information, but Bonnie interferes and starts writing her own description.

At Christy’s apartment, Jill puts the finishing touches on the meal. After dinner, Christy and Bonnie are in the kitchen, and Bonnie tells Christy she has set up a double date with Tom. Christy is hesitant, but Bonnie convinces her it’s a good idea.

On the double date, Christy is nervous and doesn’t know what to say. She tries to force the conversation and makes it even more awkward. Bonnie tries to help by bringing up uncomfortable topics. The date ends disastrously, and Tom is clearly not interested in seeing Christy again.

Back at the restaurant, Tammy is helping Bonnie check out her online dating account. They find a few potential matches, but Bonnie is skeptical. Tammy suggests they message some of them, but Bonnie doesn’t know what to say. Tammy writes a few messages, but Bonnie decides to add her own twist to them.

Christy comes home to her apartment, and Dale in the monkey suit is back. Dale tries to give her a flyer about his animal shelter, but Christy tells him she is not interested in dating him. Dale makes a move on Christy, and she tells him to leave.

At the restaurant, Bonnie is demoralized after failing to find a suitable match on her online dating profile. Tammy tries to encourage her, and they decide to try messaging a few more potential matches.

Back at Christy’s apartment, Bonnie tells Christy she is sorry about the failed date. Bonnie throws out the idea of making a men’s calendar to raise money for the animal shelter Dale mentioned earlier. Christy agrees, and they decide to have it as a family affair.

The next day, Bonnie and Christy arrive at the animal shelter to see Dale. He shows them around and introduces them to the animals. Bonnie talks to Dale about her upcoming calendar idea and asks if he would participate. Dale is hesitant at first but eventually agrees.

At the restaurant, Tammy helps Bonnie set up another date with a man she found online. Bonnie is excited and nervous, but Tammy assures her everything will be fine.

Back at the apartment, Christy and Bonnie are working on the men’s calendar. Bonnie is enjoying the process, and Christy is happy to see her mom having fun.

In the end, Bonnie goes on her date and it is a success. She tells Tammy all about it in the restaurant. Christy goes to bed, and Dale in the monkey suit comes up to her window again. He apologizes for his behavior earlier and offers to take her out on a proper date. Christy declines, but they agree to be friends.

The episode ends with Bonnie and Tammy talking about Bonnie’s date and how happy Bonnie is. Tammy tells Bonnie she is proud of her for putting herself out there and trying new things.

Overall, Mom season 2 episode 5 is a heartwarming look at the mother-daughter relationship between Christy and Bonnie. The episode deals with themes of love, friendship, and trying new things. The addition of Dale in the monkey suit adds a fun and lighthearted touch to the show.
