Monday Night Football Season 44 Episode 11 Indianapolis Colts at San Diego Chargers

  • October 14, 2013

On the eleventh episode of season 44 of Monday Night Football, the Indianapolis Colts take on the San Diego Chargers in a thrilling matchup at Qualcomm Stadium. Both teams are looking to bounce back from tough losses in their previous games and earn a crucial win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Colts, led by quarterback Andrew Luck, have had a bit of a rollercoaster season so far. They started off strong, winning three of their first four games, but then suffered a four-game losing streak. They have managed to recover somewhat, winning two of their last three games, but still find themselves sitting at 4-5 on the season. Luck has been playing well, throwing for over 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns so far, but the Colts have struggled with consistency on both sides of the ball.

The Chargers, on the other hand, have been one of the more surprising teams in the league this season. They were written off by many after losing their first four games, but have since bounced back with a vengeance, winning six of their last seven games. Quarterback Philip Rivers has been playing at an extremely high level, throwing for over 2,700 yards and 21 touchdowns so far. The Chargers defense has also been playing well, led by standout pass rusher Joey Bosa.

The game kicks off with the Colts receiving the opening kickoff and driving down the field for a touchdown, with Luck connecting with wide receiver T.Y. Hilton for a 30-yard score. The Chargers respond with a touchdown of their own, as Rivers finds tight end Antonio Gates in the endzone. The two teams trade field goals before the Colts take the lead again, with Luck finding tight end Jack Doyle for a touchdown.

In the second half, the Chargers come out firing, scoring two quick touchdowns to take a 24-17 lead. The first comes on a long touchdown pass from Rivers to receiver Tyrell Williams, while the second is a short run by running back Melvin Gordon. The Colts refuse to go quietly, however, and respond with a touchdown of their own, as Luck finds running back Frank Gore with a short pass.

The game remains close throughout the fourth quarter, with both teams trading blows. The Colts tie the game with a field goal, but the Chargers respond with a touchdown run by Gordon to retake the lead. With time winding down, the Colts have one last chance to win the game, and they drive down to the Chargers' 20-yard line with just seconds remaining. Luck drops back to pass and looks for Hilton in the endzone, but the pass is batted down at the last moment, giving the Chargers a hard-fought 31-28 victory.

Overall, it was a thrilling game between two talented teams. Rivers was the star of the show, throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, while Gordon added 68 rushing yards and two scores of his own. Luck had a solid game as well, throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns, but his late-game interception proved costly. The Chargers' win keeps them in the hunt for the AFC West title, while the Colts find themselves slipping further out of playoff contention.
