Monday Night Football Season 45 Episode 2 Preseason: Cincinnati Bengals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • August 24, 2015

In season 45, episode 2 of Monday Night Football, fans tuned in to watch the first preseason game of the Cincinnati Bengals versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As one of the most highly anticipated events of the preseason, both teams came ready to showcase their young talent and compete in front of a national audience.

The Bengals, who finished last season with a 4-11-1 record, hoped to rebound this year with the help of their new quarterback, Joe Burrow. Burrow, the number one overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, made his highly anticipated debut after recovering from an injury. Fans were eager to see if he could show off his skills after a successful college career at LSU where he led the school to a national championship with one of the best statistical seasons by a quarterback in NCAA history.

Meanwhile, Buccaneers fans were excited to see their starting quarterback, Tom Brady, take the field for the first time since winning his seventh Super Bowl last season. Other notable players like wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin also suited up, generating high expectations from the fanbase.

As is typical for preseason games, the starters played only a limited number of snaps. Fans got an early glimpse of Burrow's talent, and he looked comfortable directing the Bengals’ offense. He found his rhythm quickly, completing five of his six passes for 25 yards. He orchestrated a 61-yard drive and put the Bengals in position to score, however, Randy Bullock missed a 37-yard field goal.

On the Buccaneers' side of the ball, fans got to see Brady and his first-string offense for a few series. The Bucs looked steady but unspectacular, with Brady completing one pass to each of his top receivers. The team’s kicking unit struggled as well, with Ryan Succop missing a field goal and an extra point attempt.

As the starters began to take a seat on the bench, it was time for younger and less proven players to step up and compete for a chance to make the roster. For Cincinnati, the standouts included running back Chris Evans and wide receiver Trenton Irwin. Evans showcased his quickness and elusiveness, rushing for 25 yards on six carries, and Irwin caught four passes for 46 yards.

The Buccaneers had a few players make plays as well. Rookie quarterback Kyle Trask showed flashes of promise, completing three of his four passes and leading the team to a touchdown drive. Wide receiver Cyril Grayson Jr. also displayed his excellent speed and caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

As the game wore on, younger and less proven players got longer looks, as coaches began to evaluate which players would make the regular-season roster. The competition was fierce, and players put in their best effort to gain an advantage. In the end, however, it was Tampa Bay who came out on top, winning the game 19-14.

Overall, the game was exciting and provided fans with an early glimpse of what to expect from both teams in the regular season. Fans got to see stars like Burrow and Brady, as well as promising young players vying for a chance to make the roster. Though the game didn't count in the standings, it provided both teams with plenty of valuable information to use as they prepare for the regular season.
