In season 1 episode 3 of My Wild Affair, titled "The Rhino Who Joined the Family," viewers are introduced to the incredible story of a young conservationist named Anna Merz who formed a deep emotional bond with a black rhino named Samia. Anna had always been passionate about wildlife, and she traveled to Kenya in the 1970s to work on a conservation project. It was there that she first met Samia and began to develop a close relationship with her that would last for years.

At the time, black rhinos were in danger of extinction due to poaching and habitat loss. Anna was determined to do whatever she could to help preserve these magnificent creatures, and she saw something special in Samia. Despite being wild, Samia seemed to be more curious and friendly than other rhinos, and she quickly developed a connection with Anna.

Over time, Anna began to spend more and more time with Samia, eventually moving her into her own home where she could care for her more closely. This was no easy feat - Samia was a massive animal, weighing over a ton and requiring constant attention and care. But Anna was devoted to her, and she worked tirelessly to keep her safe and healthy.

As their bond grew, Anna began to see Samia as more than just a wild animal. In many ways, Samia became a member of her family, and Anna went to great lengths to make sure that she was happy and comfortable. She even took Samia on outings to explore the surrounding countryside, allowing her to experience new sights and sounds.

But as much as Anna loved Samia, she knew that she couldn't keep her as a pet forever. Black rhinos were meant to live in the wild, and Anna wanted to give Samia the chance to live the life she was meant to have. So she began to plan for Samia's eventual release back into the wild, working with other conservationists to make sure that the transition would be as smooth as possible.

In the end, Samia was released back into the wild, and Anna was there to watch her go. It was an emotional moment for both of them, but Anna knew that it was the right thing to do. Samia was able to join other rhinos in the wild, and Anna was able to continue her work to protect these incredible animals.

"The Rhino Who Joined the Family" is a heartwarming and inspiring look at the bond between humans and animals, and it's a reminder that even the most unlikely friendships can change lives. Through Anna and Samia's story, viewers will gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and they'll be inspired to do their part to protect it.
