Don Eppes teams up with his brother Charlie, a mathematical genius, to solve a series of bombing incidents at the CalSci campus. In the previous episode, Professor Alan Hasburgh has a run-in with a group of skateboarders who destroyed his laptop while he was walking on his way to his car. Charlie tries to help Professor Hasburgh by finding out the exact trajectory of the skateboarders and where they were headed next. He discovers that the skateboarders were heading towards the Mathematics building where he and his brother Don work. This leads to the two brothers to team up to solve the case.

As the episode begins, the FBI agents are discussing the campus bombing incident. The target appeared to be the CalSci campus, but evidence suggests that it may be a personal attack on one of the employees. Charlie suggests that the point of the bombing is to maximize the damage, and that even a small explosion could cause a chain reaction that would lead to even more damage. He suggests the possibility that another attack could occur since the perpetrator has not been caught yet.

Agent Eppes and his team investigate whether the bomb was manufactured on the campus, and whether there were any unusual activities in the parking lot. They find out that an unknown guest checked in to an area nearby the previous evening and left early the next morning, suggesting that he may have been involved in the bombing.

When the agents pursue the man, he drops a package of explosives and escapes. With the help of the security team, they shut down the campus while they search for the bomber. Meanwhile, the professors in the Math department try to keep their research and work going as best as possible while their department is effectively quarantined.

As the campus is slowly being reopened, Don and Charlie race to catch the bomber before he strikes again. They analyze the devices, trying to understand better how they were built and to try to identify the bomb-maker’s signature. They find that a certain professor’s lab may be the source of the materials used in making bombs at the campus. Since the lab’s management system is automated, there is no hard copy that can be traced.

Alan Hasburgh discovers that the chess tournament he is to attend is also under threat, with the prize being a diamond-studded chess set worth a lot of money. Charlie points out that the tournament is the ideal setting for the perpetrator to plant his explosive.

The agents and the professors converge on the chess tournament, searching for the person who is trying to make an explosive. It turns out to be one of Professor Hasburgh’s students, who is unaccustomed to the amount of work required to pass Hasburgh’s classes. The student has been sabotaging Hasburgh’s work and is willing to resort to drastic measures in order to win his diamond-studded prize.

As the episode ends, Alan and Charlie are discussing how to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Alan says that he will be more mindful of students looking for easy grades and that he will pay closer attention to his guidance of students. The two brothers are optimistic that their teamwork may lead to better results, allowing them to solve more cases together.
