The Janus List is an episode of Numb3rs season 3, which is a crime drama television series that centers around the joint effort between the FBI and a mathematics professor to solve complex crimes. The third season finale, The Janus List, begins with a clean-up operation at a warehouse, where several workers are seen deconstructing equipment as a group of men overlooking the work. One of the workers finds an old teletype machine. Eager to understand its function, he starts playing around with the machine, and to his surprise, a message comes through, detailing a list of names.

As the team comes to grips with the magnitude of the Janus list the FBI agents and the mathematics professor, Don Eppes, and Charlie Eppes, investigate the potential terrorist threat looming over the country. The Janus List is a terrorist database containing the names of people coded using an imaginary number sequence that George Capacitor, a group member, had developed years ago. The Janus List names dropped to a poorly dispelled search network led to a massive data breach, and it's now in the hands of some of the country's most dangerous terrorist groups. The situation calls for immediate action, as the lives of millions of Americans, along with federal intelligence agents, are at risk.

As the investigation continues, the team learns that there is a mole within their team and that the suspected individual is responsible for leaking the list. As the investigation picks up steam, the team begins working double-time to apprehend the mole. As the clock ticks down, the team uncovers additional information, leading them to a particular suspect. The team must scramble to catch the suspected mole before he can do any more harm.

Throughout the episode, Don and Charlie work together to solve the complex mathematical puzzles and decrypt the imaginary number sequences used to code the names. Meanwhile, David Sinclair and Colby Granger investigate possible suspects, trying to find the leak that led to the data breach.

As the team gets closer to identifying the mole, they learn that terrorists have planted bombs around Los Angeles in an attempt to distract the FBI and delay their mission. The clock is ticking, and the team must quickly find and defuse the bombs.

In the end, the team discovers a shocking link between the mole and a senior government official. The plot twist reveals that the government official, unseen throughout the episode, is the mastermind behind the data breach and is using the Janus List to eliminate everyone who poses a threat to his political agenda. His belief is that contributing to the list and eliminating potential threats will ensure safety for the American people.
