Charlie is visited by an old colleague from CalSci, Dr. Ethan Rosenstein, who hires Charlie as a consultant when his sociopathic former student, Simon Kraft, returns and wreaks havoc on the university where Charlie once worked. Charlie soon realizes that Simon has been targeting people in a pattern that is eerily similar to a classic teaching on game theory that Charlie wrote years ago. As the investigation continues, team members become embroiled in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with Simon, who seems to be always one step ahead of them. Meanwhile, Don is still reeling from his breakup with Megan and is having trouble focusing on the investigation.
