Ep 3. Step Right Up

The third season of Parenthood continues with episode 3 titled Step Right Up.

The Braverman family is back in full force with all members going through various challenges. Adam and Kristina are adjusting to their son, Max, starting middle school. Meanwhile, Julia is struggling with Zoe's pregnancy news and trying to hide it from her husband, Joel. Crosby is juggling his responsibilities at the Luncheonette and being a father to his son, Jabbar. Meanwhile, Sarah is trying to help Amber plan her future as the latter is finding it hard to pick a college.

In this episode, the Bravermans come together to support Sarah when she takes a job at a local restaurant. While Sarah may feel demeaned by the job, her family supports her decision as it's the first step in taking control of her life. Across town, Kristina is coming to terms with Max's Asperger's diagnosis and trying to navigate a school district that isn't truly supportive of children with special needs.

Elsewhere, Crosby's priorities are tested at the Luncheonette when a famous musician requests a meeting with him. Meanwhile, Julia confides in her mother, Camille, about her struggles to keep Zoe's pregnancy a secret while Joel works on a complicated deal at his job.

As the episode progresses, the Braverman family comes together for a carnival fundraiser for Max's school. Adam, Kristina, and Max are excited to be a part of it, but things take an unpleasant turn when a group of kids begins to pick on Max. The Bravermans rally behind Max and come up with a plan to let him know that he is loved and that he doesn't need to change for anyone.
