Ep 1. Patriot

In the first episode of Patriot, we are introduced to John Tavner, an intelligence officer who has just returned home after serving in the Middle East. Tavner is struggling with PTSD and is looking for a way to get his life back on track. He has a new job working for a piping company that is actually a front for the CIA, and he is tasked with traveling to Luxembourg to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Tavner's mission is complicated by the fact that his father, who is also a CIA operative, is on the same case and has a different plan. Tavner's father believes that the best way to stop Iran is to finance a rebellion in the country, while Tavner believes that his approach, which involves stealing a large amount of money from a bank, is the better plan.

Tavner is not entirely comfortable with his new job and feels like he doesn't fit in with the other agents. He is also struggling with his own personal demons, including the fact that he doesn't know how to connect with his estranged wife and his brother, who is mentally ill and living in a care facility.

Despite all of these challenges, Tavner is determined to succeed in his mission. He travels to Luxembourg with his fellow CIA agent, Dennis, who is also struggling with personal demons of his own. Dennis is obsessed with the music of the French singer, Agathe, and we see him attending one of her concerts during their mission.

Once in Luxembourg, Tavner and Dennis work to gather information about their target, a man named Al-Attar, who they believe has ties to Iran's nuclear program. They follow him to a bank where they witness a tense meeting between him and a group of businessmen. Tavner decides that the best course of action is to rob the bank, which will not only prevent Al-Attar from acquiring the funds he needs but will also give them the money they need to finance their plan.

The rest of the episode follows Tavner and Dennis as they plan and execute the bank heist. Along the way, we see glimpses of Tavner's past, including his time in the Middle East, and we see how these experiences have impacted him. We also see the toll that Tavner's job is taking on his personal life, including his relationship with his father and his difficult marriage.

Overall, the first episode of Patriot sets up an intriguing premise and introduces us to a flawed and complex protagonist. The show combines elements of spy thrillers and character dramas to create a unique and compelling story.
