She shares the story of how she became the first Black woman to serve as a volunteer firefighter in her small town in Georgia, and how she continues to advocate for racial justice today.

Another individual featured in "I Rise" is Abelardo "Lalo" Delgado, a Mexican-American poet and activist who emerged during the Chicano Movement of the 1960s. Lalo shares his story of growing up in poverty and facing discrimination as a Mexican-American in Colorado. He describes how he found his voice through poetry and activism, becoming a leading figure in the Civil Rights movement and using his art to uplift and empower others.

In addition to these inspiring stories, "I Rise" also includes segments on a range of other topics, including a transgender artist who uses her work to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusion, a daughter of Holocaust survivors who shares her family's story of survival, and a young woman who overcame addiction to become a successful entrepreneur.
