- March 6, 2009
Phineas and Ferb: 104 Days of Summer! is an animated television series that follows the adventures of two stepbrothers, Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, as they create outlandish inventions and embark on wild escapades during their summer vacation. Each episode revolves around a new project that the duo and their friends attempt to complete before the end of the day.
In the season 1 finale episode, "Unfair Science Fair / Unfair Science Fair Redux," Phineas and Ferb enter the annual Tri-State Area Science Fair with their latest invention, a machine that can turn objects into gold. However, things take a sour turn when they discover that the science fair is rigged in favor of contestants from the local Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated. Meanwhile, their pet platypus Perry, who is actually a secret agent, must stop Dr. Doofenshmirtz's latest evil scheme.
The episode begins with Phineas and Ferb excitedly preparing for the science fair, hoping to win first place with their gold-making machine. Their friends Isabella and Baljeet are also working hard on their own projects, with Isabella creating a bubble-gum flavored cola and Baljeet designing a portable energy source. Meanwhile, Candace, Phineas and Ferb's older sister, is determined to bust her brothers' latest scheme and finally prove to their parents that they are up to no good.
As the fair begins, Phineas and Ferb are feeling confident about their chances of winning. However, they soon realize that the science fair is being unfairly judged in favor of the Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated entries. Dr. Doofenshmirtz himself is one of the judges, and he is using his influence to ensure that his own invention, a giant robot, wins first place. Phineas and Ferb are outraged by the unfairness of it all and refuse to back down.
Meanwhile, Perry the Platypus is on a mission to stop Dr. Doofenshmirtz's latest scheme, which involves a shrinking device that he plans to use to steal the Eiffel Tower. Perry manages to thwart the evil scientist's plans, but not without causing chaos and destruction along the way.
Back at the science fair, Phineas and Ferb decide to take matters into their own hands and rig the competition in their favor. They create a robot duplicate of Dr. Doofenshmirtz and program it to give them the highest score possible. The plan works, and Phineas and Ferb win first place.
However, their victory is short-lived when the real Dr. Doofenshmirtz discovers the deception and challenges Phineas and Ferb to a rematch. In the rematch, the boys decide to play fair and rely on their own merits to win. They present their gold-making machine once again, but this time they also showcase some of their other inventions, including a rollercoaster, a giant treehouse, and a flying car. The judges are impressed, and Phineas and Ferb win first place once again, this time without cheating.
In the end, Perry returns home to seemingly find Phineas and Ferb's project to be another boring invention until he sees the duo turn the largest gold nugget into the GoldPocalypse eating street-truck of the summer. The episode ends with Phineas, Ferb, and their friends enjoying their summer vacation knowing it was well spent, with Doofenshmirtz also being content to have built his machine.
"Unfair Science Fair / Unfair Science Fair Redux" is a thrilling and humorous episode that showcases the ingenuity and creativity of Phineas and Ferb. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they remain determined to succeed and never give up on their dreams. The episode also highlights the importance of fairness and honesty, as Phineas and Ferb ultimately win the science fair by playing fair and relying on their own talents and abilities.
