Ryoma Echizen begins his first day at Seishun Academy, eager to join the tennis team and prove his skills on the court. However, his confidence is quickly shattered when he is upstaged by the team's captain, Kunimitsu Tezuka, during a practice match. Despite this setback, Ryoma remains determined to improve his game and earn his place on the team.

In the second episode, titled "Samurai Junior," Ryoma's training continues as he participates in his first official tournament with the Seishun Academy team. His opponents are the Rokkaku Junior High team, led by the talented but arrogant Jin Akutsu. Ryoma quickly realizes that Akutsu's playing style is far more aggressive than anything he has ever seen before, and struggles to keep up with his opponent's powerful shots.

As the match progresses, Ryoma's teammates begin to falter under the pressure of the competition. His doubles partner, Takeshi Momoshiro, becomes overly aggressive and begins to make costly mistakes, while another player, Sadaharu Inui, falls victim to Akutsu's mind games. With the team in danger of losing the tournament, Ryoma must find a way to turn the tide and defeat Akutsu.

In typical Prince of Tennis fashion, the match between Seishun Academy and Rokkaku Junior High is filled with intense action, nail-biting suspense, and plenty of tennis jargon. Fans of the series will enjoy watching Ryoma adapt to the challenges of the tournament, demonstrating his quick reflexes and impressive skills on the court. The episode also introduces several new characters, including the eccentric Inui and the hot-headed Akutsu, who will play important roles in future episodes.

Overall, "Samurai Junior" is a strong follow-up to the first episode, showcasing the series' unique blend of sports drama and shonen action. While the pacing may be slow at times, the episode is bolstered by its strong cast of characters and thrilling tennis matches. Viewers who enjoy sports anime such as Haikyuu!! or Kuroko's Basketball are sure to appreciate Prince of Tennis for its portrayal of the sport and the intense rivalries that develop between players.
