In Project Runway: Fashion Startup season 1 episode 3, entitled "Girls Just Wanna Have Funds!", the competition heats up as four new entrepreneurs pitch their fashion businesses to a panel of expert investors. In this episode, the focus is on the female consumer and how each entrepreneur plans to cater to her needs and wants.

The first entrepreneur is Lisa Morales-Hellebo, who has created a service called "My Fashion Database". This service provides fashion industry professionals with up-to-date information on trends, designers, and fabrics. Lisa explains that her target audience is fashion buyers, stylists, and editors who need to stay on top of the latest fashion trends. The investors are impressed with her product and the potential for growth, but they question her valuation and ask her to justify it.

Next up is Ava the Elephant, a company that has created a unique solution for parents who struggle to get their children to take medicine. Founder Tiffany Krumins has created a product that disguises medicine as candy, making it easier for kids to swallow. While the investors are impressed with her solution and the fact that she has already secured licensing deals with major retailers, they question whether the product is scalable and whether Tiffany has a plan for expanding the product line.

The third entrepreneur is Lizz Wasserman, who has created a lingerie company called The Underargument. She explains that her company is focused on creating lingerie that is not only beautiful but also comfortable and practical for everyday wear. Lizz's target audience is women who want to look and feel good without sacrificing comfort. The investors are impressed with her passion for the product but question whether the market for lingerie is saturated and whether she has a plan for expanding beyond her current product line.

Finally, we meet the team behind Just Zip It, a company that has created a line of dresses that can be transformed into multiple outfits using removable zip-on accessories. Founder Valerie Mayen explains that her target audience is women who want to get more wear out of their clothing without having to constantly buy new pieces. The investors love the concept but question whether Valerie has the resources and infrastructure in place to scale the business.

After the pitches, the investors deliberate and make their decisions about which companies to invest in. As always, tensions are high as the entrepreneurs wait anxiously to hear their fate. In the end, one entrepreneur walks away with a deal while the others go back to the drawing board to refine their strategies and pitches for the next round.
