Raw Travel Season 4 Episode 3 Gateway to Africa, South Africa
- October 15, 2016
Raw Travel season 4 episode 3 takes us to the stunning South Africa, where the world-renowned Kruger National Park is the focal point of the journey. As the episode's title suggests, our trip begins in Johannesburg, the bustling cosmopolitan city known as the "Gateway to Africa."
The team's first stop is the Apartheid Museum, which is a sobering yet fascinating exhibit detailing South Africa's apartheid era. The museum showcases a timeline of South Africa's apartheid struggles, racial segregation, and political upheaval. Visitors can look through the optical illusions and exhibits, including the infamous "whites only" entrance signs, to get a better understanding of the country's history. The museum is truly a must-see experience for anyone visiting Johannesburg.
Next, our Raw Travel crew ventures to Soweto, which stands for South Western Township. The township is located 20 minutes’ drive away from Johannesburg. Soweto is the country's most populous township and has played a crucial role in South African history. The township has seen many changes over the years, but it continues to thrive even today. Soweto is home to many cultural landmarks, including Nelson Mandela's former house, The Regina Mundi Church, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum. The crew also explores the vibrant nightlife of Soweto and the music and dance traditions of the township.
The next part of the journey takes us to Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa. Spanning over 19,000 square kilometers, it is home to some of Africa's most magnificent wildlife, including lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalos. Our team goes on a safari tour and meets with local conservationists working to protect these creatures from poaching and other environmental threats.
But Raw Travel is not all about the wild animals and natural beauty of Kruger National Park. The team also spends some time with the local community, learning about the various cultures and traditions of the region. They visit a local school, interact with the children, and participate in a traditional dance class. Our team also visits a local craft market where they meet the artists and craftsmen who sell their handmade artifacts.
The final part of the episode takes us to Mpumalanga, one of South Africa's nine provinces. Mpumalanga is known for its stunning natural beauty, with towering cliffs, waterfalls, and outdoor adventure activities. Our team takes to the skies for a hot air balloon ride over the rugged terrain, taking in spectacular views of the landscape from a bird's eye view.
Raw Travel's Gateway to Africa, South Africa is a cultural and spiritual journey to one of the most beautiful places in the world. With its rich culture, spectacular natural beauty, and friendly people, it is a place every traveler should have on their bucket list.
