Ep 21. Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode III

  • February 5, 2012

Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode III is the twenty-first episode of the fifth season of the American stop-motion animated comedy television series, Robot Chicken. Created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, the episode aired on Adult Swim on December 19, 2010.

As the title suggests, this episode is a parody of the third installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Revenge of the Sith. The plot follows a similar outline to the original movie, but with a comedic twist. The episode features a wide range of characters from the Star Wars universe, as well as some new ones created specifically for the Robot Chicken universe.

The episode begins with a parody of the iconic opening crawl in Star Wars, complete with an opening monologue by the Emperor himself. From there, the story follows the familiar arc of the movie, with Anakin Skywalker's descent into the dark side and eventual transformation into Darth Vader. Along the way, we are treated to a hilariously irreverent take on some of the most memorable scenes from the movie, as well as some new scenes that play off of Star Wars lore in unexpected ways.

One of the highlights of the episode is the presence of the Robot Chicken characters as themselves in the Star Wars universe. This includes the Robot Chicken himself, who appears as the emperor's pet and serves as a running gag throughout the episode. We also see the chicken as a Jedi master, a Sith lord, and even as a podracer. Other Robot Chicken characters make appearances as well, such as the Mad Scientist and the Nerd.

In addition to the Robot Chicken characters, the episode features a wide range of classic Star Wars characters, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Padme Amidala, and of course, Darth Vader. Many of these characters are given new personalities and quirks that are unique to Robot Chicken, such as Obi-Wan's obsession with animal crackers or Yoda's penchant for breaking into song.

The episode also takes some creative liberties with the Star Wars lore in order to inject some fresh humor into the story. For example, we see Palpatine trying out a new, lighter shade of black for his Sith robes and the Jedi council discussing the merits of different brands of lightsabers. There are also several moments of self-awareness, where the characters comment on the absurdity of the situations they find themselves in. These moments serve as a reminder that while the show is irreverent and often ridiculous, it is also a loving tribute to the Star Wars franchise.

Overall, Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode III is a hilarious and inventive parody of a beloved movie. The show's signature style of rapid-fire humor and pop culture references is on full display here, as is its unabashed love for all things Star Wars. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the franchise or just a casual viewer, this episode is sure to tickle your funny bone and leave you with a newfound appreciation for the power of the dork side.
