As soon as episode 18 of season 2 opens, we see that Alex and Joel are in a very complicated situation. They both find themselves in a tight spot and it looks like they don't know what to do next. Alex is dealing with the aftermath of her breakup with Charlie, while Joel is trying to cope with his guilt after losing one of his patients on the operating table.
Meanwhile, Dr. Goran is facing a challenging surgery. In the previous episode, he had discovered a tumor in a patient's heart. And now, in episode 18, he's going to do everything he can to remove it. But the surgery is complicated and it brings up some old memories that he's been trying to forget.
Elsewhere in the hospital, Maggie is dealing with a patient who has a very different approach to her heart condition. The patient, a young and vibrant woman, has decided to stop taking her heart medication because it makes her feel lethargic and depressed. Maggie is trying to convince her to start taking the meds again, but the patient seems adamant that she doesn't want to continue with the treatment.
As the episode progresses, we see that Alex and Joel are both struggling to come to terms with their respective situations. Alex is heartbroken and feels like she may have made a mistake by breaking up with Charlie. Joel, on the other hand, is having a hard time dealing with the fact that he couldn't save his patient. But the two of them find a way to lean on each other and support each other through their struggles.
Later in the episode, Dr. Goran's surgery takes a dangerous turn when the patient's heart suddenly stops beating. Goran has to act fast to save the patient's life, and he does everything he can to get her heart beating again. It's a high-pressure moment, and the entire surgical team is on edge as they wait for the patient's vital signs to stabilize.
In the end, the patient's surgery is a success, thanks to Dr. Goran's skill and expertise. And Alex and Joel finally start to open up to each other about their personal struggles. They both realize that they can't do everything on their own, and they need to lean on each other for support.
Overall, episode 18 of season 2 of Saving Hope is an emotionally charged episode that explores the personal struggles of the characters. It shows us that even the most skilled doctors and nurses can have their own personal demons to face, and that sometimes the best medicine is simply having someone to lean on.
