Scandal Season 5 Episode 18: Till Death Do Us Part
In "Till Death Do Us Part," the 18th episode of Scandal's fifth season, the drama is at an all-time high as the team prepares for Mellie Grant's (Bellamy Young) 40th birthday party. But as the night progresses, secrets are revealed, and relationships are put to the test.
The episode begins with Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) in her office, listening to a voicemail from Jake Ballard (Scott Foley). He's calling to tell her that he's in love with her, and he's willing to do anything to be with her. Meanwhile, Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield) is busy planning Mellie's birthday party. She's also dealing with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), who wants to let her in on a secret.
At the White House, Fitz is discussing a confidential matter with David Rosen (Joshua Malina). David tells Fitz that he doesn't want to be involved in whatever scandal he's a part of. But Fitz assures him that it's for the greater good.
Meanwhile, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) has discovered that his ex-wife Kim (Jasika Nicole) is in danger. He rushes to her house to protect her. While he's there, he discovers that Kim's new boyfriend is abusive. Huck takes matters into his own hands and attacks the man.
Back at the birthday party, Mellie is having a great time, and the team is trying to keep up appearances. But things start to unravel when Fitz shows up unexpectedly. He tries to convince Olivia to come back to the White House, but she refuses.
While the guests mingle, Huck arrives at the party with Kim, who is shaken up from the earlier incident. Quinn (Katie Lowes) is angry with Huck, feeling like he's putting the mission in jeopardy by bringing his personal life to the party.
As the night progresses, tensions rise between Olivia and Fitz. They both know that their relationship is over, but they can't seem to let go. Meanwhile, Mellie is growing suspicious of what's really going on. She's determined to find out what secrets are being kept from her.
The episode climaxes when Abby receives a phone call from a White House staffer who tells her that Fitz and Olivia are having an affair. Abby confronts Olivia at the party, telling her that there's no way she's going to be the President's mistress again. Olivia is taken aback and denies the accusation. But as the party ends, Mellie finds herself alone with Fitz and Olivia.
In the final scene, Mellie confronts Olivia, telling her that she knows what's really going on. Olivia tries to deny it, but Mellie sees right through her. The episode ends with Mellie threatening to expose the affair, and Olivia feeling powerless to stop her.

As the secrets are revealed, and the characters' true motivations are exposed, the tension builds to a thrilling conclusion.
