Ep 4. Bad Parents

After losing their fortune, the Rose family finds themselves struggling to adapt to life in Schitt's Creek. In season 1 episode 4, "Bad Parents," tensions rise as David and Alexis realize the full extent of their parents' neglect and irresponsibility throughout their childhoods.

The episode begins with Johnny and Moira trying to do something nice for their children. Johnny decides to teach David how to drive in an effort to bond with him, while Moira offers to take Alexis shopping for some new clothes. However, things quickly go awry as David proves to be a terrible driver and ends up crashing the car into a fence, while Alexis becomes frustrated with her mother's lack of interest in her opinions on fashion.

Feeling neglected and unloved, David and Alexis begin to reflect on their upbringing and realize just how bad their parents were as caregivers. They recount stories of being left alone for days on end, cursing in front of their children, and failing to attend important events in their lives.

Despite their parents' attempts to brush off their behavior as "tough love," David and Alexis are rightfully angry and hurt. To make matters worse, the family accountant reveals that they are almost out of money, adding to the already strained dynamic.

Meanwhile, Johnny and Moira try to come up with ways to make amends with their children. Johnny decides to write a heartfelt letter to David, expressing his love and regret for not being more present in his life. Moira, on the other hand, tries to reconcile with Alexis by attending her school play and offering her some much-needed encouragement.

In the end, the family comes together to support one another, but the damage has already been done. "Bad Parents" is a poignant reminder of the lasting impacts of childhood traumas and the importance of being there for the ones we love.
