Ep 1. Dead Guy in Room 4

The opening episode of season four of Schitt's Creek introduces us to the Rose family once again. As they continue to settle into small town life in Schitt's Creek, what could go wrong? The episode, titled "Dead Guy in Room 4," begins with a stench that takes us into the Schitt's Creek Motel. It seems a guest has expired in their room and nobody has noticed for days.

The incident reveals the fact that the motel has no official housekeeping staff. Thus, Johnny Rose takes over the task of cleaning and housekeeping. Meanwhile, David Rose feels that he has been locked out from his previously successful business venture in the city and isn’t happy about it. Moira Rose prepares for the upcoming Jazzagals performance that she's been asked to direct, which is a huge opportunity for her as a former actress.

While Johnny closes the motel to take care of the cleaning, Stevie Budd, the motel's receptionist, jeopardizes the operation after making a huge mistake. All of it happens just before the annual "Asbestos Fest" which attracts a vast number of Schitt's Creek's residents. Fearful that these incidents will affect the festival and the guests who will be attending, Johnny and Stevie have to work together to hide any potential mishaps and keep the motel's reputation as good as it could be.

The episode continues with the Rose family members adjusting to life in their new small town. Stevie and David hang out together in the motel’s bar it seems they have an unspoken sort of chemistry. Alexis Rose is discovered helping out in Ted's Veterinary Clinic. When Ted needs help to care for a sick cat, Alexis steps up and ends up finding a new passion.

Later on in the episode, Johnny finds himself quoting the motel rooms with what he calls "industrial-style" sheets and pillowcases, causing Moira to question the quality of the accommodations. Despite trying to be a port in a storm, Johnny seems to be finding it hard to run the motel, and it's taking over his life. Though trying to avoid being viewed as the interloper, Johnny still seems to be viewed with suspicion by Schitt's Creek residents.

As Asbestos Fest commences, all seems to be going well until more miscommunications take place in Room 4. As a result, Johnny and Stevie have to come together again to resolve this situation with their apparent usual teamwork and savvy. It's unclear whether this act will elevate Johnny’s standing in the town or end up exposing him further for his faux pas.

Throughout the episode, we are reminded of the pure chemistry between the cast, their humor, and their general chemistry. We get a glimpse into how the Rose family dynamics are slowly changing and how they seem to be settling back into small town life. “Dead Guy in Room 4” sets the tone for the season ahead with all the continuing hilarity of life in Schitt's Creek as the Roses try to eke out a new existence.
