JD and Turk start off the episode talking about the concept of having a "drug buddy," someone to always take drugs with. Turk reveals that he is JD's "drug buddy," and that JD is in charge of always reminding him of his wife's name when he's high, prompting JD to hilariously quiz Turk on her name.

The episode gets serious as JD ends up having to use a drug called Demerol to numb a patient's pain. After this experience, JD begins to feel addicted to the drug, and Turk becomes his "drug buddy" to help him wean off of it.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cox becomes obsessed with getting the perfect evaluation score from his superiors, even resorting to cheating. When JD confronts him about this, Dr. Cox brushes it off and says he's just doing what he has to do to get ahead.

In the end, JD successfully weans himself off of Demerol with Turk's help, and Dr. Cox realizes that he doesn't need to cheat to get ahead, ultimately doing the right thing and giving an honest evaluation score.

Overall, "My Drug Buddy" deals with the heavy topics of addiction and temptation, while still incorporating the show's signature humor and heart.
