"Wings" is a sitcom set at a fictional airfield in Nantucket. The two-airline "Tom Nevers Field" is the scene where brothers Joe and Brian Hackett, played by Tim Daly and Steven Webber respectively, hold sway. Nantucket's actual airport was used for exterior shots although the show was filmed before a live studio audience in Hollywood. Joe is the responsible brother taking care of business for tiny, one-airplane Sandpiper Air. Brian Hackett is the carefree, irresponsible younger brother. Crystal Bernard, Thomas Haden, Tony Shalhoub, David Schramm, and Rebecca Schull also starred in the ensemble comedy. Bernard is Helen Chappel Hackett, a Nantucket airport lunch counter operator. Haden is Lowell Mather, blathering handyman. Shalhoub, later of "Monk" fame, plays Alekio, an Italian immigrant taxi cab operator. Fay played by Schull is a retired flight attendant lending motherly advice. Roy, played by Schramm, is foil for the Hackett brothers. He owns Sandpiper arch-rival Aeromass with seven airplanes. "Cheers" show runners David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee followed up with "Wings" before also creating "Frasier." Characters from "Cheers" and "Frasier" sometimes crossed over into "Wings" episodes. The show has won BMI Film and TV Awards and the TV Land Award.
