Ep 4. The Captive Dinner Guest

Dory, Drew, Portia and Elliot gather at a restaurant for dinner, but their meal is interrupted when they think they spot Chantal – the girl they've been obsessively searching for – across the street. They quickly spring into action, giving chase to the suspect. It's only when they have her in custody that they realize their mistake – the woman isn't Chantal, but rather a completely different person entirely. As they try to release the innocent hostage, they discover something strange about the house she was taken from and fear that Chantal is actually in danger.

The gang becomes increasingly anxious about their involvement in the situation and the authorities becoming involved. Regardless, they sneak into the house to get a good look and determine what's going on. The seemingly abandoned mansion proves to contain a number of strange items. Besides the creepy dolls and other misanthropic decorations, the group accidentally comes across a locked room. They try to enter, but set off a loud alarm, which sends them running. However, the potential sighting of Chantal is too important to give up on, so they start a covert investigation, constructing false identities to investigate further.

The team splits up, each of them acting out a different character to get information about the house from those living around it. This leads Dory to meet April, a woman who lives nearby who becomes overly involved in the mystery and asserts herself into the group. Drew becomes an eccentric art critic, Portia an awkward, preppy ex-schoolmate, and Elliot a wealthy financial advisor. As they explore the area and search for information, the group becomes convinced that the person responsible for the abduction is a disgruntled local artist who once had a connection to Chantal.

As the team gets closer to discovering the truth, they become more and more paranoid, constructing makeshift traps and weapons as they believe they are being watched and followed. Their paranoia leads them to get caught up in strange, concerning behaviors, and puts them on edge as they feel threatened.

Ultimately, the team learns that things are not as they seem, and some conflicting information proves concerning. They begin to turn on each other, with increased tension and morale. When Chantal’s possible whereabouts are revealed, their priorities are all tested and balancing the truth and their inner motivations becomes more difficult than ever before. They must now face situations that they couldn't have foreseen and navigate an increasingly complex web of lies and deceit. Their search has never been more urgent, and the stakes have never been higher.
