The show Search Party follows the lives of a group of self-absorbed, 20-something New Yorkers as they navigate relationships, career aspirations, and society's expectations. Season 4 episode 6, titled The Thoughtless Woman, opens on the aftermath of the group's latest scheme gone awry.

As the episode opens, Dory (played by Alia Shawkat) finds herself locked up in a prison cell, panicked and confused. Meanwhile, her friends Drew (John Reynolds), Elliott (John Early), and Portia (Meredith Hagner) are all forced to grapple with the consequences of their actions. Drew seems to be handling it the worst, with his mental state rapidly deteriorating as he struggles to come to terms with what they've done.

As the episode progresses, we learn more about the events that led up to Dory's imprisonment. It turns out that the group had attempted to kidnap a woman they believed was involved in the disappearance of Chantal, a friend they had been searching for over the past few seasons. However, their plan went awry, and they ended up accidentally harming the woman in question. This mistake leads to a series of disastrous consequences for the group, with Dory taking the brunt of the blame.

The episode is largely focused on the psychological toll that these events have on the characters. We see Dory struggling to maintain her sanity in the face of incredible isolation and uncertainty, while Drew spirals into a deep depression. Elliott and Portia, meanwhile, try desperately to hold themselves together and keep their friend group from falling apart.

Despite the dark subject matter, there are moments of humor peppered throughout the episode. One particularly memorable scene involves Elliott trying to win back his ex-boyfriend by performing a cringe-worthy musical number in the middle of a party. It's moments like this that make the show feel at once both relatable and utterly surreal.

As always, the acting in Search Party is top-notch. Alia Shawkat delivers a standout performance as Dory, capturing both her fear and her desperation in a way that is both realistic and compelling. John Reynolds also deserves praise for his portrayal of Drew, who undergoes a significant transformation over the course of the episode.

Overall, The Thoughtless Woman is a strong entry in what has been a consistently excellent season of Search Party. It's a testament to the show's skillful storytelling and unique perspective on millennial life that it can tackle such weighty subject matter while still managing to be both funny and entertaining. If you're a fan of smart, dark comedies, this is a show that should definitely be on your radar.
