Frank and the kids prepare for Aunt Ginger's funeral, but are surprised when it turns out she's not actually dead; she's been living in the basement for years. The family tries to figure out what to do with her, while also contending with the arrival of social services who are investigating Frank and the children's living situation. Ian continues to explore his sexuality and begins a sexual relationship with Kash, a married Muslim shopkeeper. Lip and Karen's relationship hits a snag when Karen's father reveals Lip's secret college fund to her. Fiona tries to secure a job at a local club, but is harassed by the owners and must stand up for herself. Meanwhile, Sheila begins to come out of her shell and takes a job at a convenience store. As the family navigates these challenges, they also begin to realize the true extent of Aunt Ginger's mental illness and must grapple with the consequences of her long-hidden secret.
