Lena and Martin’s co-parenting plan finally takes shape in Splitting Up Together season 1 episode 2, titled "Devil May Care". But, as always, things don't go according to plan for the estranged couple. In this episode, Lena and Martin deal with the aftermath of their spontaneous night together and try to navigate their new co-parenting arrangement.

The episode begins with Lena waking up in Martin’s bed, realizing that they have slept together. After some initial awkwardness, Lena and Martin agree that what happened was a mistake and that they should focus on their co-parenting. However, there’s a catch: Lena can’t bear to leave Martin’s apartment because her home is under construction. So, she offers to take the couch while Martin sleeps in the bed.

Meanwhile, Lena and Martin's kids, Mae and Mason, are dealing with their parents’ separation in their own ways. Mae is handling it by acting out at school and getting detention, while Mason is trying to be the perfect child, but is struggling to keep his grades up.

To help Mae cope with her feelings, Lena and Martin decide to organize a one-on-one time with each of their children. Lena takes Mae for a makeover and bonding session to make her feel special, while Martin also tries to connect with Mason by taking him out for a day of father-son activities.

As the episode progresses, Lena and Martin both struggle to keep their emotions in check and not cross any boundaries. However, their co-parenting dynamic is constantly thrown off balance as they confront their lingering feelings for each other.

In the meantime, Lena’s boss has asked her to assist the high-strung and demanding editor Eileen in handling a big project. Eileen proves to be a major headache for Lena, who is trying to juggle her professional life with her personal one. Lena’s frustration with the situation is only compounded when Eileen shows up at her house and mistakenly thinks that Martin is her boyfriend. The situation becomes even more awkward when Eileen starts to flirt with Martin in front of Lena.

In a surprisingly mature moment, Lena realizes that she needs to put her own feelings aside for the sake of her children and their co-parenting arrangement. She decides to talk to Martin about their boundaries and reaffirm their commitment to their new dynamic. However, Martin’s lingering feelings for Lena prove to be too much to handle as he tries to make a move on her.

Overall, "Devil May Care" is an emotional rollercoaster that showcases the complicated, messy reality of co-parenting after a divorce. Lena and Martin are forced to navigate their past feelings while trying to move forward for the sake of their children. This episode does an excellent job of highlighting the many challenges that arise when two people who were once in love have to rebuild their relationship as co-parents. With excellent performances from the cast and some truly cringe-worthy moments, "Devil May Care" is a must-watch for fans of Splitting Up Together.
