Ep 3. Street Meat

Lena and Martin's custody battle for Milo continues in Season 1 Episode 3 of Splitting Up Together. After a weekend with Milo, Martin returns him to Lena's house later than planned, setting off an argument between the exes. Lena has a hot date that evening, so she asks Martin to stay and watch Milo while she gets ready. Martin hesitates at first, but Jenna convinces him to do it.

Meanwhile, Maya and Arthur plan a date night, but Arthur has other ideas. He surprises Maya by taking her out to a food truck festival instead of their usual fancy restaurant. Maya is hesitant at first, but soon warms up to the idea, enjoying their time together as they wander the festival. Along the way, they run into Lena, who is on her way to meet her date. Lena is visibly nervous and uncomfortable, leading Maya to believe that she's not over Martin yet.

At home, Martin struggles to care for Milo on his own. He forgets to bring a change of clothes when taking Milo to the playground, leaving Lena to come to the rescue. She arrives with a fresh outfit and a warning to Martin that he needs to step up his game if he wants to win custody of Milo. Martin takes the advice to heart and puts in more effort with Milo the rest of the day.

As the date progresses, Lena becomes increasingly uncomfortable with her new man's overly affectionate behavior. She tries to express her discomfort, but he brushes it off, leading Lena to realize that she may not be ready to start dating again just yet. She breaks things off with him before the night is over.

Back at home, Martin and Lena put Milo to bed and have a heart-to-heart discussion about their past and their future. They reflect on how they fell out of love, but also realize that they still care for each other. Martin suggests that they give their marriage another chance, but Lena is hesitant. She wants to take things slow and see where their relationship could go.

The episode ends with Maya and Arthur coming home from their food truck festival, content and happy with their unconventional date night. Lena and Martin sit in silence next to each other on the couch, unsure of what the future holds for them. Meanwhile, Milo sleeps soundly in his room, blissfully unaware of his parents' complicated relationship.
