Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 episode 1, named "Lost and Found," introduces viewers to a group of alien teenagers who are stuck on a prison planet. The episode begins with Dal, a human teenager, who has been stuck on the prison planet after his parents were taken away by the galactic authority, stealing a keycard to escape. He teams up with a group of other teenagers from different alien species, Gwen, Murph, Zero, Jankom, and Rok-Tahk, who have also been trapped on the planet.
Together, they find a seemingly abandoned spaceship hidden on the planet. The group manages to activate the spacecraft, but they soon realize that they do not know how to control it. As they explore the ship, they discover a hologram, who introduces herself as the emergency training hologram, Captain Janeway.
The hologram informs them that the spacecraft is a Starfleet vessel, and she is programmed to teach young cadets about the workings of a starship. Although the teenagers are not exactly Starfleet cadets, the hologram decides to teach them how to pilot and operate the spacecraft, hoping that they will use the knowledge they acquire to help others in the galaxy.
As the group begins their training, they discover that the ship’s captain, a member of the Diviner’s fleet, has been tracking the ship’s location and is heading towards them. The Diviner is the father of one of the teenagers, Gwyn (a Tellarite), and he is desperate to find her and take her back home.
The teenagers realize that they need to escape the planet as soon as possible, and with the help of the hologram, they manage to pull off a daring escape. However, they soon discover that they are not out of danger yet.
While the crew learns more about their vessel and it's capabilities in the vast universe, they also begin to figure out how to work together to achieve common goals. Dal, who is initially selfish and concerned only with his own survival, is gradually forced to consider the bigger picture and the needs of his companions.
"Lost and Found" sets the tone for the rest of the show, portraying a sense of adventure that is familiar to Star Trek fans, but with a fresh twist on the concept that is perfect for a younger audience. The show is set to explore themes such as teamwork, leadership, and self-discovery, as the teenage crew learns to work together and conquer challenges together, enhancing their skills as they begin to navigate the universe.
