In Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2 episode 19 "Manhunt," the Enterprise is hosting a group of delegates from various planets for a conference on the planet Haven. Among the delegates is Lwaxana Troi, the Betazoid ambassador and mother of ship's counselor Deanna Troi. Lwaxana is known for her flamboyant personality and propensity for causing trouble.
During the conference, Lwaxana sets her sights on Captain Jean-Luc Picard, much to his chagrin. She begins pursuing him relentlessly, much to the amusement of her daughter and the disapproval of the rest of the crew. Meanwhile, the ship receives a distress call from a nearby vessel and must divert from their course to respond.
As the crew investigates the distress call, Lwaxana continues her pursuit of Picard, even going as far as to dress up in a wedding gown and propose to him (which he declines). However, her antics are interrupted when the investigation leads the Enterprise to encounter a dangerous alien creature with psychic abilities.
The crew is forced to put aside their personal issues and work together to defeat the creature and save the lives of those on board the other vessel. Lwaxana's own telepathic abilities prove to be valuable in the mission, and she ends up forming a bond with Picard's second-in-command, Commander Riker.
In the end, the Enterprise returns to Haven for the conference, where Lwaxana realizes that her pursuit of Picard was futile and that she had been overlooking the possibility of finding love with someone else. The episode ends with a comedic scene as Lwaxana sets her sights on another crew member and begins her pursuit once again.
"Manhunt" is a lighthearted episode that explores the nuances of relationships and the importance of working together in the face of danger. It also showcases the comedic talents of guest star Majel Barrett, who brings her larger-than-life character, Lwaxana Troi, to life with charm and humor. Overall, it is an enjoyable episode that offers a break from the heavier storylines of the series.
