Strip the City is a six-part television series on the Science channel that uses CGI, or Computer-generated imagery to show the infrastructure layers of cities around the world. Strip the City runs for about on hour and goes into detail about buildings, water systems, underground and above ground transportation systems, roads, bridges, and waterways. The construction and designs for these engineering marvels are shown layer by layer for each object. The necessity for those objects are shown and documented by numerous specialists such as geologists and engineers.

The first episode takes the viewer on an in depth tour of San Francisco, California. Since the city is located near the San Andres Fault, a major earthquake fault line, it must be prepared for the worse. The show takes viewers all the way down to the fault line and the tectonic plates under the city. Next stop is the Golden Gate Bridge which has withstood many earthquakes and tremors. The bridge is taken apart layer by layer using CGI animation that removes the water from the bay in order to give viewers a glimpse at the huge concrete foundations that hold the 800 feet tall towers into the ground. The construction of the new Bay Bridge is also shown layer by layer from the inside of the road to the foundation of the bridge which will be able to withstand earthquakes.

The show also goes into detail about new housing developments and the challenging issues engineers face when building on the unsteady bay area ground. Since San Francisco is home to earthquakes the engineers must make special foundations and the viewers are shown the virtual construction of these new homes. The demise and reconstruction of the famous cable cars is also explored.

Future episodes will include London, Dubai, and Sydney, Australia.

The show is directed by Roeland Doust who directed previous seasons of Strip the City along with many other television documentaries. It is produced by Jonathan Shipley, and Karen Lee.
