In Taskmaster season 7 episode 7, titled "The Perfect Stuff," the five remaining contestants -- James Acaster, Jessica Knappett, Kerry Godliman, Phil Wang, and Rhod Gilbert -- face a new set of bizarre and often hilarious challenges from Taskmaster Greg Davies and his loyal assistant Alex Horne.
The episode kicks off with a logistical challenge, as the contestants are tasked with carrying an assortment of objects -- including a plunger, a fishing rod, and a stuffed gorilla -- from one end of the field to the other, without dropping any items or touching the ground. From there, it's on to the main event, as the competitors are asked to bring in the "perfect stuff" for a variety of categories, such as "best thing to write a poem about" or "best thing to use as a backscratcher." As always, the results are delightfully unpredictable, with items ranging from a jar of peanut butter to a cardboard cutout of a celebrity.
Later, the contestants are challenged to draw a recreation of the Taskmaster portrait -- a recurring challenge throughout the series -- while strapped to a board that swings back and forth. As expected, the shaky hands and disorientation make for some hilariously bad artwork.
Finally, the episode concludes with perhaps the most dastardly challenge of all: the "faze game." The contestants are given various prompts -- such as "do an impression of someone who's terrified of fruit" or "make a noise like a vending machine dispensing happiness" -- and are then subjected to a series of distractions, such as blaring music and sudden water spray. The aim is to faze the other contestants mid-prompt and throw them off their game. Chaos ensues.
Throughout the episode, the contestants' varying personalities are on full display, as they each attempt to outdo each other with their creativity and wit. James Acaster's aloof charm and Rhod Gilbert's competitive spirit are particular highlights. Meanwhile, the dry humor and deadpan delivery of Taskmaster Greg Davies and Alex Horne provide the perfect counterpoint to the zany antics of the contestants.
Overall, "The Perfect Stuff" is classic Taskmaster at its best, with a perfect mix of absurd challenges and witty banter. Fans of the show will not be disappointed.
