Teresa is a drama series that revolves around Teresa Mendoza, a Mexican woman who is forced to flee her country after her boyfriend is murdered by a drug lord. The show is based on the novel "La Reina Del Sur" by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

In the first episode of the series titled "Teresa Se Gradúa," we are introduced to Teresa Mendoza, a young woman living in Culiacán, Mexico, with her boyfriend, Güero. Güero is a member of a drug cartel and often finds himself in trouble. One day, he is killed by his enemies, and Teresa's life takes a drastic turn.

Determined to stay alive, Teresa seeks refuge with two of her friends, Brenda and Chino. She soon realizes that she needs to flee the country to avoid being killed by the cartel. With the help of her friend Pote, Teresa contacts a man named Epifanio Vargas, who promises to help her escape to Spain.

At the same time, Teresa is dealing with the reality of being a high school dropout. Despite her difficult circumstances, she is determined to graduate from high school before leaving the country. She enrolls in a night school and works hard to pass her exams. Her English teacher, Guero, takes a particular interest in her and helps her prepare for her final exams.

As Teresa prepares for her graduation, she discovers that she is not the only one who wants to leave Culiacán. Her friend Brenda also wants to escape, but her boyfriend, Raymundo, is determined to stay and fight in the drug cartel wars. Teresa tries to convince Brenda to leave her boyfriend and come with her to Spain, but Brenda is torn between her loyalty to Raymundo and her desire for a better life.

As the day of Teresa's graduation approaches, tensions in Culiacán reach a boiling point. The drug cartel war intensifies, and violence erupts on the streets. Teresa and her friends realize that they need to leave town as soon as possible if they want to have any chance of survival.

As she walks up to receive her diploma, Teresa reflects on her past and her future. She knows that leaving Mexico is the best thing for her, but she also knows that she will never forget her roots. With one hand clutching her diploma and the other gripping Pote's hand, Teresa leaves Culiacán and begins her journey to Spain.
