Actor Lionel Barrymore hosted this year's event at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. For the first time ever at the Oscars, actors Wallace Beery (The Champ) and Fredric March (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) tied for the award for Best Actor. Helen Hayes took home the award for Best Actress for her role in The Sin of Madelon Claudet, and Walt Disney received a Special Award for his contributions to animation and the creation of Mickey Mouse.
