Columbia's release It Happened One Night swept the 1934 Academy Awards with big wins in the Best Picture, Best Actor (Clark Gable), Best Actress (Claudette Colbert), Best Director (Frank Capra), and Best Writing/Adaptation (Robert Riskin) categories. A Special Award was also given to actress Shirley Temple in recognition for her contribution to screen entertainment during the year of 1934.
