The Comey Rule is a limited series from Showtime that premiered in September 2020. It is based on the memoir A Higher Loyalty by former FBI Director James Comey and chronicles the events leading up to the 2016 US presidential election, along with the aftermath that resulted in the eventual firing of Comey by President Donald Trump.

Jeff Daniels plays James Comey in what can be described as a career-highlight performance. Daniels delivers a nuanced performance, conveying the heartache and ethical dilemmas Comey faced as he grappled with the political forces that ultimately led to his downfall. Daniels' portrayal is both empathetic and complicated, making it clear that Comey is a flawed individual trying to do the right thing in an increasingly toxic political environment.

Holly Hunter plays Sally Yates, the former Deputy Attorney General who was fired by President Trump for refusing to enforce a travel ban against Muslim-majority countries. Like Daniels, Hunter gives a powerful and restrained performance as Yates, whose principled stance against Trump's policies makes her a valuable ally to Comey.

Michael Kelly plays Andrew McCabe, who was the Acting Director of the FBI after Comey's firing. Kelly conveys McCabe's sense of duty and frustration as he tried to navigate the FBI during one of its most politically tumultuous periods.

Jennifer Ehle plays Patrice Comey, James Comey's wife, who provides an emotional anchor for her husband as he grapples with the consequences of his actions. Ehle gives a quiet and understated performance, but it is one that adds depth to the overall portrayal of the events that led to Comey's firing.

Scoot McNairy plays Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General who wrote the letter that served as the basis for Comey's firing. McNairy gives a commanding performance as Rosenstein, whose actions helped set in motion a series of events that would have severe consequences for the FBI and the country as a whole.

Jonathan Banks portrays James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence, who helps guide Comey through some of the most challenging periods of his FBI tenure. Banks is a scene-stealer, and his gruff yet compassionate portrayal of Clapper provides the perfect counterbalance to Daniels' more introspective performance.

Oona Castilla Chaplin plays Lisa Page, the FBI lawyer whose personal life became fodder for political attacks against the agency. Chaplin conveys Page's intelligence and resilience as she navigates this incredibly challenging situation.

Amy Seimetz plays Trisha Anderson, another FBI lawyer who was at the center of the controversy that engulfed the agency during the 2016 election. Seimetz gives a standout performance as Anderson, whose unwavering commitment to the rule of law makes her a central figure in the drama.

Steven Pasquale plays Peter Strzok, the FBI agent whose anti-Trump texts became a flashpoint in the controversy that followed Comey's firing. Pasquale gives a complex and nuanced portrayal of Strzok, whose actions are made more understandable in the context of the events that unfolded during this period.

Brendan Gleeson plays Donald Trump, whose presence looms large over the entire series. Gleeson's portrayal of Trump is both over-the-top and chilling, capturing the essence of the man whose actions shook the foundations of American democracy.

The Comey Rule is a powerful and scathing indictment of the forces that are tearing the country apart. It is a sobering reminder of the fragility of our democratic institutions, and of the need for all of us to take a stand against the forces that would tear them down.

The Comey Rule is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (3 episodes). The series first aired on September 27, 2020.
