Ep 11. First Impressions

The Fosters season 3 episode 11, titled "First Impressions," follows the story of the Foster family as they continue to navigate through the challenges of their daily lives. The episode starts with Lena, one of the mothers, discussing with Monte, the school principal, about the latter hiring a new drama teacher for the school. With the school play happening soon, they need someone highly qualified to direct it.

Meanwhile, Callie, one of the foster children, is worried about her future, especially since she is nearing the end of her probationary period. She talks to her probation officer, who tells her that she needs to appear before a judge to determine if her probation will be revoked or extended. Stef, one of the mothers, tries to reassure Callie by telling her that everything will work out fine as long as she keeps on the right path.

Later on, the family meets their new neighbors, the Hales, who have just moved in next door. They have a small child named Beatrice who becomes fast friends with Jesus, one of the foster kids, and a hassle for the teens. It is soon revealed that Beatrice's real name is "Sarah"; her parents changed it when they moved to the neighborhood. The revelation sparks a conversation about the importance of being true to oneself.

Moreover, Mariana and Jesus try out for the school play, and Mariana is pleased to see that the new drama teacher takes a liking to her. However, things start to go south when the teacher casts Callie instead of Mariana in the lead female role. Mariana takes it as a personal slight, and her jealousy towards Callie worsens due to the teacher's preferential treatment towards her.

On the other hand, Jude is struggling with his sexuality and confides in Connor, his best friend. Connor comforts Jude and even suggests that they exchange contact information so that they can keep in touch over the summer. However, Jude's crush on Connor is ultimately left unresolved by the end of the episode.

Elsewhere, Lena's mother, Dana, comes to visit, and it is revealed that she has decided to divorce her father. Dana also visits the Hales to offer them a deal, and it is soon discovered that she plans on building a luxury hotel on the nature reserve next to the Foster's house. The family is left to contemplate what this means for their peaceful way of life, and they are unsure about whether they should take a stand against it or not.

As the episode comes to a close, Callie has her day in court, and the family rallies around her to be there for support. The final scene shows the family driving home, their car filled with hope and possibility. Overall, "First Impressions" is a thought-provoking, well-executed episode that makes for a great addition to The Fosters series.
