Ep 15. Muscles Mirsky

In The Goldbergs season 1 episode 15, titled "Muscles Mirsky," the family is hit with a blast from the past when Beverly's high school nemesis, Bill Lewis, comes back to town. Beverly is determined to show Bill that she is successful and happy, so she plans a big party. Meanwhile, Adam wants to impress Dana by showing her how strong he is, so he enlists the help of his Uncle Marvin and his muscle-bound friend, Chad Mirsky.

The episode opens with Beverly excitedly showing Erica and Barry her old yearbook, which includes a photo of Bill Lewis, the boy who constantly bullied her in high school. She revels in the fact that she has become successful and happy, unlike Bill who still lives in their hometown and works at the local auto repair shop. Adam, meanwhile, is trying to find a way to impress Dana and thinks that building muscle is the answer.

Enter Uncle Marvin and Chad Mirsky, a hulking, muscle-bound teenager who agrees to help Adam bulk up. The two start a rigorous workout routine, but it quickly becomes clear that Chad is not the most reliable friend. He frequently flakes on workouts and even steals Adam's T.V. to watch wrestling.

As Beverly plans her big party to show off her success, she hires her old friend, Wendi McLendon-Covey's real-life sister, to cater the event. The party itself is a bit of a disaster, with Bill showing up and stealing the spotlight. Beverly becomes increasingly desperate to prove her success, which leads to a hilarious confrontation between the two old enemies.

Meanwhile, Adam and Dana's relationship hits a rocky patch when he becomes too obsessed with working out. Dana admits that she likes Adam just the way he is and that she is more interested in his sense of humor and intelligence than his muscles.

The episode ends with Beverly and Bill burying the hatchet and Adam realizing that he doesn't need to change himself to impress others. It is a heartwarming and funny episode that highlights the importance of self-acceptance and the power of old grudges.
