Ep 8. Seven Minutes Under Water

Rod Baird is a passionate kayaker. Strong currents are nothing new to him - the more challenging, the better. Chattooga River in North Carolina with its notorious rapids seems to be just perfect. On July 20th in 2003 Rod and his friends chose Chattooga for their kayak tour. They manage the biggest part of the rapids perfectly. Rod has just passed Decapitation Rock, when all of a sudden a strong current flips him over and flushes him head first towards Hydroelectric Rock. Rods kayak is caught in a chute. He is trapped - and still underwater. After several life threatening rescue attempts, Rod can finally be freed and his motionless body is being pulled onto land. At that time, Rod has been underwater for 7 minutes - too long for a human body to survive.
