The 34th annual Kennedy Center Honors kicks off its first episode of the season with a celebration of some of the most iconic artists and performers of our time. Hosted by Gloria Estefan, this episode features heartfelt and extravagant performances in honor of the 2019 honorees: Earth, Wind & Fire, Sally Field, Linda Ronstadt, Sesame Street, and Michael Tilson Thomas.

The show opens with a brilliant performance by the Dance Theatre of Harlem, paying tribute to the legendary funk band, Earth, Wind & Fire. Then, it's on to the first honoree, Sally Field. Known for her memorable performances in films such as "Norma Rae" and "Steel Magnolias," Field is praised for her incredible range as an actress. Both Maura Tierney and Constance Wu deliver emotional speeches about the impact Field has had on their own careers, with Sarah Jessica Parker and Glenn Close adding their own touching remarks.

Following Field's tribute, the next honoree takes the stage: the beloved children's show, Sesame Street. The heartfelt tribute to the iconic television program features appearances from Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster, along with a host of iconic singers including musician and songwriter Philip Glass, the Muppets, and Oscar the Grouch.

The third honoree is the legendary musician and one of the most successful female vocalists of all time, Linda Ronstadt. Actress and singer Vanessa Williams performs her classic hit "Blue Bayou" in a touching tribute to the artist. Along with Williams, the crowd is treated to a performance of Ronstadt's hits "Don't Know Much" and "When Will I Be Loved" by the likes of Don Henley and Emmylou Harris.

The fourth honoree is celebrated with a performance by the San Francisco Symphony, led by Michael Tilson Thomas. Known for his inspiring leadership and work in classical music, his tribute also includes powerful speeches from performers including Daniela Mack, Jake Heggie, and Yo-Yo Ma. Tilson Thomas' long-time friend and colleague, Itzhak Perlman, also makes a special appearance.

Finally, the show concludes with a tribute to all of the honorees, featuring a stunning performance by Lizzo, who delivers an emotional rendition of "Cuz I Love You," dedicated to all of the artists who have touched her life. With a standing ovation and cheers from the crowd, this episode of the Kennedy Center Honors delivers an emotive homage to these iconic artists and their contributions to American culture.
