Ep 15. Crappy Birthday

Doug plans a surprise party for Carrie's 30th birthday, but things don't go as planned. He accidentally invites her father, whom Carrie is estranged from, and he also orders a hideous cake that no one wants to eat. Meanwhile, Carrie is feeling depressed about turning 30 and is not exactly thrilled about having a birthday party. Doug tries to cheer her up, but his actions only make things worse. He buys her a "relaxation kit" that includes a book about coping with stress, but Carrie takes this as a sign that he thinks she's too uptight. The situation goes from bad to worse when Carrie's father shows up and ruins the party. He's drunk and obnoxious, and no one is happy to see him. Carrie is angry with Doug for inviting him, and Doug is angry with Carrie for not appreciating the effort he put into planning the party. In the end, they both apologize and make up, but Carrie's father remains a sticking point in their relationship.
