Ep 18. The Shmenkmans

Doug and Carrie meet new neighbors, the Shmenkmans, who live in the house right next to them. Initially, the couple is thrilled to have new neighbors, but they quickly realize that the Shmenkmans are very different from them. For one, they have no filter and say whatever comes to their minds, even if it's inappropriate or rude. Also, they have very unique hobbies that Doug and Carrie don't understand, like collecting Bigfoot dolls or making their own clothes.

Despite all of this, Doug and Carrie try to be friendly and invite the Shmenkmans over for dinner. However, the evening quickly goes downhill when the Shmenkmans start insulting their apartment and criticizing Carrie's cooking. Doug and Carrie try their best to be polite but eventually snap and tell the Shmenkmans how rude they're being. The dinner ends in an awkward silence, and Doug and Carrie are relieved when the Shmenkmans leave.

The next day, Doug and Carrie find out that the Shmenkmans have filed a complaint against them with the neighborhood association. The complaint cites various violations, like the size of their barbecue grill and the height of their lawn. Doug and Carrie are upset and feel like the Shmenkmans are being petty and vindictive. They decide to fight back and find similar violations in the Shmenkman's house. This sets off a series of escalating pranks between the two couples, each trying to one-up the other.

At the same time, Arthur is convinced that he's being followed by a government agent who's spying on him. He becomes increasingly paranoid and starts acting erratically, like jumping out of moving cars or wearing a tinfoil hat to block the signal. Doug and Carrie try to get him help but he refuses, insisting that he needs to protect himself from the agent.

As the war between the two couples intensifies, things start to get out of hand. At one point, Doug and Carrie accidentally set the Shmenkman's house on fire, leading to a tense confrontation between the two couples. Eventually, they realize that their feud is childish and decide to call a truce. They apologize to each other and agree to get along, even if they don't understand each other's hobbies or way of life.

Meanwhile, Arthur discovers that the government agent he's been afraid of is actually just a private detective hired by Doug and Carrie to follow him. They wanted to make sure he was safe and not getting into trouble. Arthur is embarrassed but relieved and thanks them for their concern.

The episode ends with the two couples having a friendly barbecue together, with Doug and Carrie even getting interested in the Shmenkmans' Bigfoot collection. They may not be best friends, but they've learned to coexist and appreciate each other's differences.
